The Montana State BBQ Championship is scheduled for August 11th and 12th (Tuesday and Wednesday). This is a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned, professional BBQ cooking competition. The competition will bring together professional and amateur BBQ teams from across the USA and Canada for two days of fun and competition at MontanaFair.
KCBS sanctioned events provide the most respected form of judging and scoring in the world of BBQ. KCBS provides representatives for the contest and access to certified BBQ judges who have been trained in how to judge world-class barbeque, using a blind judging process that is fair and void of personal knowledge of teams being judged.
Following the judging on Wednesday, August 12th, the teams may choose to offer samples for sale from 4pm until 8pm at the BBQ & Brews event in the Rimrock Auto Arena. “MontanaFair Bones Bucks” will be available for sale and tasting samples will be sold for one “Buck” per taste.
New at the 2015 MontanaFair is the Montana Cup BBQ. This championship is based on the cumulative KCBS scores from three Montana KCBS sanctioned events. Competing teams for the cup will be required to participate in the Miles City BBQ event in Miles City CowTown Cook Off on June 19-20, the Montana BBQ Cook-Off in Absarokee on July 4-5, and the Montana State BBQ Championships at MontanaFair on August 11-12.
The Montana Cup is administrated by the Montana BBQ Association. Teams will compete for over $1,500.00 in cash and awards. Montana Cup winners will be announced at the Montana State BBQ Championships at MontanaFair on Wednesday, August 12th.
The “Kid’s Q” at MontanaFair BBQ event pits children from the ages of 6-16 in a contest to see who can BBQ the best steak in Montana. Rules state that an adult must accompany the children, but the children have to do all the preparation, seasoning and cooking on their own. Judges will award prizes and premiums in the contest for 1st to 10th place using Kansas City BBQ Society scoring (blind judging). All entries need to bring their own BBQ Pit. Only charcoal or wood pellets pits will be allowed. No gas pits please! Over $500 in cash and prizes will be awarded!
Entry fee is $35.00 per team (no more than 2 kids and one adult per team and must include one adult). Entry Deadline is August 7th!
