Fair Fun Facts


  • The predecessor to MontanaFair was The Midland Empire Exposition chartered in 1916 and first held at North Park which was a much larger area than the current North Park.
  • The first premium book for the Midland Empire Exposition indicated that “Entries are open to the WORLD!” 
  • In 1918 the Midland Empire Exposition moved to the current fairgrounds.  The main entrance is now closed off, but was at the confluence of Highway 87E, 1st Ave. N. and Exposition Drive
  • Since it’s inception, the fair has had three names:  Midland Empire Exposition, Yellowstone Exposition, and now, MontanaFair.
  • The longest running one of the most popular rides at MontanaFair is the Ferris Wheel.  Bridge Builder George Ferris invented the original for the 1893 World’s Fair.  At MontanaFair the Ferris Wheel has been the site for a number of marriage proposals.
